A few days before the winter 2024 holiday season, President Joe Biden signed a new law. The Cardiomyopathy Health Education, Awareness, and Research, and AED Training in the Schools. The HEARTS Act 2024 requires elementary and secondary school students and staff to learn and be trained in CPR and use of an AED. Through this law, schools will have access to grant funding to support needs for public health education and training in understanding high-risk cardiac conditions. This new law includes a formal cardiac emergency response plan—a document that outlines an official procedure to guide students and staff on what to do in emergencies.
